Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups peeled and diced potatoes
  • 1/3 cup diced celery
  • 1/3 cup finely chopped onion
  • 3/4 cup diced cooked ham
  • 3 1/4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons chicken bouillon granules
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon ground white or black pepper (or to taste)
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Vegetables and Ham:
Dice the potatoes, celery, and onions. Place them in a large pot with the diced cooked ham. Add 3 ¼ cups of water and bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Cook the Vegetables:
Stir in the chicken bouillon granules, salt, and pepper. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
  3. Create the Cream Base:
In a separate saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute to form a roux. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens and becomes smooth.
  4. Combine and Serve:
Slowly pour the cream base into the pot with the vegetables and ham. Stir to combine and heat through. Adjust the seasoning to taste. Serve hot, optionally garnished with fresh herbs or cheese.
