Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (milk, dark, or semi-sweet)
  • Additional butter or oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Batter:
    • In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
    • In another bowl, whisk the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
    • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing to maintain a light texture. The batter should be slightly lumpy.
    • Fold in the chocolate chips.
  2. Heat the Pan:
    • Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
    • Add a small amount of butter or oil to the pan, ensuring the surface is coated evenly.
  3. Cook the Pancakes:
    • Pour 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake onto the skillet.
    • Cook until bubbles form on the surface and the edges look set, about 2–3 minutes.
    • Flip the pancakes and cook for another 1–2 minutes, or until golden brown and fully cooked.
    • Repeat with the remaining batter, greasing the pan as needed.
  4. Serve:
    • Stack the pancakes on a plate and serve warm.
    • Top with maple syrup, whipped cream, fresh fruit, or extra chocolate chips, as desired.
